Which Types of Bridal Gowns are Good for Me?

Hey everyone!

If you are planning a wedding in the winter/spring of 2016 or even next summer, I’m sure you have started to think about what your dream dress would look like on you! Finding the right dress is crucial and get stressful, trust me, we know! Getting all your friends, family together, finding the right bridal salon, and then finding the right dress can be a long process and sometimes doesn’t happen overnight.

Questions you might ask yourself: What types of dresses are there? How do I know what will look good on me? Is it possible to make my dress look flawless? Do I want to look like Carrie Bradshaw from Sex and The City when Big leaves her at the alter or when they finally get married? LOL

The Bridalista wants to make it easier for you! Think of it as a guide for bridal gowns! I have put together a list of different types of dresses and what body type they look most flattering on. Believe or not different types of bridal gowns are designed to hide any flaws and show off all your natural curves! Let’s take a look!

Type of Dress

A Line: Fitted at the bodice and gently flares wider

toward the bottom, resembling the letter A

Flattering Body Type

Great for hiding any lower body insecurities

Empire: Waistline is above the natural waistline,

right below the bust

Flattering Body Type

Best on smaller busted or petite framed women. Also, Empire helps slims

a thicker waste line.

Ball Gown: Long, Formal Dress with full skirt

Flattering Body Type

Ball Gowns have a tendency to look best on average to tall women. They

have the ability to hid everything from mid section, hips, and legs.

Sheath: A hugging silhouette with a straight skirt at mid-calf.

Flattering Body Type

Works well for sleeveless options and toner bodies.

Trumpet: Tight fit until mid-hip then widens gradually to the hem.

(The Bridalista Fact: Trumpet is mid-hip and mermaid is knees)

Flattering Body Type

Adds curves on a straight figure or accentuates

feminine curves on a fuller figure.

Mermaid: Fits closely to the body from the chest to the knee

then flares out to the hemline

Flattering Body Type

Best on hourglass body shapes

There you have it ladies! Of course with any dress, alterations can be made to make ANY dress look perfect! Also keep in mind the bridal salon’s associate’s opinion! They might throw at you a dress that you might not like at first, but actually end up loving it! After all, they are the experts!
